Lover's Eye Painting on a Cobalt Quatrefoil Plate

Lover's Eye miniature paintings were popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries (Georgian and Regency periods), and were frequently incorporated in rings and lockets. This is a larger, modern version in oil, on an antique plate with a deep cobalt glaze and hand-painted gold gilt floral designs on a quatrefoil base: possibly Coalport, Limoges, or even Sarreguemines, 19th-century. 7”x5.6”x1”
