18th Century Engraving of a Marco Ricci Landscape by Giovanni Volpato


An antique, 18th-century, c. 1730 Italian engraving with hand coloring in a gold and black frame. The engraving itself is from a series of 10 engravings of Marco Ricci's Italian landscapes. This is No. 8. "L'onda tranquilla i naviganti alletta". Designed by Marco Ricci (1676-1729); engraved by GIovanni Volpato (1733-1803); produced by Joseph Wagner in Venice. Marco Ricci was considered to be the founder of a Venetian style of picturesque landscape painting that because internationally popular. The sticker on the back reads: D. J. Healy, Specialty Shops. 24ʺW × 0.5ʺD × 17.25ʺH. This is a c. 1730 print, framed in the early to mid-20th century.
