A pair of rare, antique Japanese vases with a basketweave texture in a yellowish beige, and relief sea life details of crabs, snails, and bamboo. Late 19th-century to c. 1900. Unsigned. A glazed form of Sumida Gawa or Banko ware, a type of yellow-ware in the style of European Palissy majolica. 5ʺW × 5ʺD × 8ʺH. The crabs have several broken legs, and there's some chipping to the glaze of the bamboo and a some light, old wear to the rims. Please see the close-ups.
