An antique, c.1870-1880 English Staffordshire spaniel dog, red and white, on a base and with a mottled log spill vase (rare red and white model). Spills were rolled up pieces of paper used to light fires and candles from other fires; although spill vases were not intended to hold water, this one does. 8"x3.25"x13". The dog's portrait is painted in oils on board, with wide beveled gilt frame. 21.25"x25.25".
