Lover's Eye miniature paintings were popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries (Georgian and Regency periods), and were frequently incorporated in rings and lockets. This is a larger, modern version in oil, on a vintage Royal Crown Derby English Imari plate in cobalt blue and rust with gilt details in the traditional chinoiserie design.
