Lover's Eye Painting on an English Red Imari Plate

Lover's Eye miniature paintings were popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries (Georgian and Regency periods), and were frequently incorporated in rings and lockets. This is a larger, modern version in oil, on an antique c.1800 Georgian English Imari plate in a traditional japanaiserie pattern of florals and geometrics in rust orange-red, with hints of a deep cobalt blue and gold gilt. 5.5"
