An antique French papier maché round snuff or tobacco box with a portrait of an 18th century priest in black robes, black tricorne hat, and white split collar, filling his churchwarden's pipe. Deep gold lacquer interior. Looks to be Revolutionary, from the costume, late 18th-century. Light wear to the paint, as shown. Flake to the lacquer on the edge of the lid with possible old repair; rim nibbles to the inner box. Large: 4" by 3/4".
