THE PORTRAITS: In my portraits, I juxtapose a historical style of realism with a modern crop to focus our gaze on the subject's gaze, thereby creating direct engagement and a welcoming sense of story-sharing intimacy. These are the heroines (and sometimes heroes) of their own stories, and although they are caught in a moment of stillness and graphically silhouetted precision, they are embedded in their own rich, imaginative worlds, ready to share their secrets...and to hear our secrets in return.
