No. 2111 "Genevieve Was Always Ready for Adventure" Portrait Plate
An oil portrait painting of Rachel in a black and magenta cape on a French Haviland Limoges porcelain dish with scalloped, gold gilt border, entitled "Genevieve Was Always Ready for Adventure". Paired with a "Gallerie de Vaux Hall" frame from a French, 18th-century gravure of the entrance hall to the delightful and slightly notorious English pleasure gardens which provided the setting for fireworks displays, balloon rides, and reckless, secretive trysts in the garden groves. The plate measures 6.25"; the frame measures 8.25" x 8.25".
THE STORY: Inspired by literature, my portraits have novelistic titles that hint at the adventures of their heroines (and sometimes heroes).
THE CHINA: Many of my paintings are set in antique saucers and dishes which not only work as unexpected frames but add a layer of historical narrative on top of the origin story. Each piece has a unique blend, so that some are more romantic, some more exotic, and some more otherworldly.
