Limoges plate with a black and gold neoclassical Greek key border; paired with a frame from a 19th-century wallpaper of a woodland landscape. The plate measures 6"; the frame measures 10" x 10". Entitled "Camilla Took a Train to the Country for the Weekend to Escape the Needs of the City".
THE STORY: Inspired by literature, my portraits have novelistic titles that hint at the adventures of their heroines. In this particular mini-collection, the titles are semi-autobiographical and refer to the people, places, and adventures from my time living in France.
THE CHINA: Many of my paintings are set in antique saucers and dishes which not only work as unexpected frames but add a layer of historical narrative on top of the origin story. Each piece has a unique blend, so that some are more romantic, some more exotic, and some more otherworldly.
THE FRAMES: In addition to giving them greater significance, wall impact, and square practicality, these frames add another layer of color and pattern. They are painted in acrylics on wood bases, and come with velvet backs and hanging hardware. The plates are mounted with wire-spring holders and can be removed to be hung by themselves.
