No. 2591 "Rosa Never Ever Ever Gave Up" Portrait Plate
An oil portrait painting of Rosa on an antique porcelain saucer with a wreath of hand-painted flowers and gilt foliate designs and bands around the border. Entitled "Rosa Never Ever Ever Gave Up"; paired with a "Jardin des Thuilleries" frame from an 18th-century "vue d'optique" hand-tinted engraving of the Tuileries Gardens in Paris, where aristocrats strolled and exchanged "on-dits" not far from the Louvre Palace. The plate measures 5.75"; the frame measures 8.25" x 8.25".
THE STORY: Inspired by literature, my portraits have novelistic titles that hint at the adventures of their heroines.
THE CHINA: Many of my paintings are set in antique saucers and dishes which not only work as unexpected frames but add a layer of historical narrative on top of the origin story. Each piece has a unique blend, so that some are more romantic, some more exotic, and some more otherworldly.
THE FRAMES: In addition to giving them greater significance, wall impact, and square practicality, the complementary images on these frames add yet another layer of historical resonance. Taken from early maps, gravures, wallpapers, and domino papers, they are printed with a state-of-the-art giclee printer using archival inks, heavy paper, specialty glue, wood bases, velvet backs, and hanging hardware. The plates are mounted with wire-spring holders and can be removed to be hung by themselves.
