A very special offering. A matched pair of 18th-century giltwood mirrors, customized with Lover's Eye portraits painted especially for you to create an exceptional and unique family heirloom.

A refined pair of carved and giltwood wall mirrors, Northern Italian, possibly Piedmontese, dating to approximately 1790–1800. Each mirror will be completed with a custom Lover’s Eye portrait, hand-painted by Susannah Carson for the purchaser and painted on the original mirrored oval medallion above the main mirror plate.

Each has a rectangular tin-mercury-amalgam-backed mirror plate surrounded by an overlapping gilt border. The lower sections terminate in pierced scrolling cartouches. The pierced centers were more recently used to secure the mirrors to the wall but were probably originally intended to accommodate girandole candle holders.

The mirrors retain attractively aged plates with characteristic spotting and oxidation. One mirror plate has significant dulling, while the other remains clearer. Neoclassical in overall conception, with lingering Rococo elements.

The purchaser may provide photographs of the eyes to be portrayed. The pair includes two custom eye paintings, created specifically for these mirrors.
