The colors - deep navy cobalt blue, rust red, with hints of green and gold details, come from the original Japanese Imari. The mixture of botanicals and geometric motifs is likewise inherited from the East. But if you look closely, you'll see the strange cobblestone pattern in the center has Aesthetic-Era angles, the flowers - possibly briar roses - feel distinctly British, and the entire result has a cheerful but stately cottage charm.
This one seems to be an early pattern whose success had it made into the early 20th-century. The back stamp reads Bell China, Made in England, dated 1933-1966, and produced in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, by a company that was originally founded in 1887.
